Catalyzes hydrolysis of stored Ry, preferred 11cis-palmitate
Localized in RPE membranes
Distinct from cholesterol-hydrolase activity and atREH
11cRy comprise 75% of total Ry pool of RPE
Distribution of Ry: 99% of vitamin A in the eye -> 75% 11cis-ester -> 57% palmitate, 25% stearate, 10% oleate, 1.1% myristate, 0.6% linoleate
Preferrence: palmitate >oleate = linoleate >myristat = stearate
9/13-cis and all-trans are inhibited substrate
