November 10th 2016, RI Meeting on Patient Reported Outcome Measures

Retina International will host an 'Open Workshop' on Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs) entitled: Functional Vision versus Visual Function – Working Towards Integrating the Patient Perspective.

Retina International (RI) and its members believe that the outcomes of clinical trials and therapy development should reflect what is of importance to their community.

A preliminary multi-stakeholder workshop held in Dublin, Ireland in 2015 resulted in a consensus view that a “White Paper” on Patient Reported Outcomes in Retinal Degenerative Diseases was an urgent need. To advance this process an 'Open Workshop' will be held in Washington DC on Nov 10, 2016 to provide a platform for experts in Patient Reported Outcome (PRO) models and Patient Perspective Studies (PPS) to discuss current best practice models for ophthalmology.

The objective of this meeting is to analyze the status of PRO and PPS in ophthalmology in this field and to form a working group that will focus on harmonizing the perspectives of the regulators, scientists, clinicians and patients in a White Paper on the appropriate PROs to be considered in upcoming studies.

This publication will be designed to facilitate the improvement of risk/benefit as well as reimbursement of and access to novel therapies for Retinal Degenerative Diseases.

RI is greatful to member organisation Foundation Fighting Blindness for its support in the organisation of this meeting,
